Determination of the heat transfer coefficient (HTC) distribution is important during design and operation many devices in microelectronics, construction, car industry, drilling, power industry research on nuclear fusion. The first part manuscript shows works describing how a change affects devices. Next, various methods determining are presented. most common method to determine HTC use Newton’s law cooling. If this cannot be applied directly, there other that can found open literature. They analytical formulations, lumped thermal capacity assumption, 1D unsteady conduction equation for semi-infinite wall, fin model, energy conservation analogy between mass transfer. also calculated by means computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling if all boundary conditions with solid properties known. Often, surface which determined not accessible any measuring sensors, or their installation might disturb analysed phenomenon. It happens calculations using direct CFD performed due lack required sufficiently proven models analyse considered physical phenomena. Too long calculation time needed tools may problematic should used online mode. One way solve above problem assume an unknown condition include additional information from sensors located at certain distance investigated surface. defined solved inverse methods. aim paper show current state knowledge regarding importance variety its determination.
